Display settings

The Contents tab on the Publisher Settings dialog box allows you to determine how you would like your map displayed in ArcReader. Here, you may choose to publish all layers or only the layers that are checked in the table of contents. You can also decide whether you would like to display data view or layout view only or display both data and layout views.

Including only visible layers in the map

Layers that are part of a group layer will also be removed from the published map if the group layer is unchecked. If the group layer is checked and layers within the group layer are unchecked, those unchecked layers will still be removed.

  1. Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
  2. Click the option to only include layers that are checked in the table of contents.

This setting allows you to choose specific layers for publishing in a map without removing the layers from the map.

Publishing the map for data view only

  1. Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
  2. Click the Contents tab on the Publisher Settings dialog box and click Data View only.

Only the data frames will be viewable in ArcReader. The map's page layout elements are not included in the published map, and layout view will be disabled in ArcReader.

  3. To choose the data frame that will be visible in ArcReader, check the Restrict Data view to one data frame check box and choose a data frame from the drop-down list. Only the chosen data frame will be published. ArcReader will not be able to view the data frame in layout view.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click the Publisher menu and click Publish Map.
NoteNote:

This setting only applies to maps with 2D content. This setting does not apply when publishing 3D globe content.

Publishing the map for layout view only

  1. Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
  2. Click Layout view only on the Publisher Settings dialog box.

Only layout view will be available in ArcReader. It will not be possible to view the map in data view.

  3. Click the Publisher menu and click Publish Map.
NoteNote:

If you want to restrict the use of Data Frame Zoom or Pan tools, use the appropriate data frame properties setting in ArcMap. ArcReader honors the ArcMap settings.

Including ArcGlobe animations

  1. Click the Publisher menu and click Settings.
  2. Click the Contents tab.
  3. On the Animations panel, click Add and browse for ArcGlobe animation files (.aga) to include in the published map.
  4. Optionally, check the check box to automatically include the animation that is contained in the globe document.
  5. Click the Publisher menu and click Publish Map.
NoteNote:
  1. This setting is only available with published 3D globe content and is not available when publishing 2D maps.
  2. Multiple animations can be included in the .pmf file for use by the Animation player in ArcReader.
  3. ArcGlobe animation files (.aga) are created using the ArcGlobe Animation toolbar.
