What's new
The Data Appliance 5.0 for ArcGIS has the following improvements and enhancements for all three collections:
General
- Cache is now delivered in ArcGIS for Server 10 compact cache storage format providing for improved data storage and transfer. ArcGIS for Server 10 or higher is now required to publish these services. For more information on compact cache, see the Inside the compact cache storage format topic in ArcGIS for Server 10 .NET Help under Publishing services > Caching services > Map caches (2D).
- The caches were generated in the ArcGIS Online/Bing Maps/Google Maps tiling scheme available with ArcGIS for Server 10. This tiling scheme is in the WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere) projected coordinate system. This tiling scheme is the same well-known ID (WKID) 102100 used for ArcGIS Online and for the Data Appliance 4.0 for ArcGIS caches. For more information on tiling schemes, see the Available map cache properties topic in ArcGIS for Server 10 .NET Help under Publishing services > Caching services > Map caches (2D) > The map caching process > Choosing cache properties.
- The 5.0 collections are configured in the WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere) projected coordinate system (WKID 102100). The alternate configuration for WGS 1984 Web Mercator (WKID 102113) is no longer included. Data Appliance services are in the same coordinate system as ArcGIS Online—WGS 1984 Web Mercator (Auxiliary Sphere).
- Major changes in data provider content occurred for maps included in the 5.0 collections. DeLorme is now a major data source for small and mid-scale map content. NAVTEQ is the primary data source for North America and most of Europe at large scales. NAVTEQ is now the data source for routing and geocoding.
