Viewing a layer's properties

Steps:
  1. Right-click the layer name.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. The Layer Properties dialog box opens.

  4. Click the General tab.
  5. The General tab contains information about scale dependency. Scale dependency is used to draw features at various scales. Some data is too dense to show at small scales. When zooming to a larger scale, the data is drawn.

  6. Click the Source tab.
  7. The Source tab displays information about the type, name, location, and coordinate system of the data source referenced by this layer. If the layer has a red exclamation point next to it in the table of contents, ArcReader is unable to connect to the source data.

TipTip:
If a layer doesn't draw as expected, the layer may have a visible scale range set. If you see a gray scale bar underneath the layer's check box in the table of contents, it's not drawing because it's outside a visible scale range. You'll need to zoom in or out to see it. If you see a red exclamation point, the link to the layer's data source is broken and ArcReader is unable to connect to the data.
