Installing ArcSDE for SQL Server
This topic contains instructions on how you install ArcSDE for SQL Server.
Steps:
- Get an authorization file for the machine on which you will install ArcSDE. This is not required to install ArcSDE, but it is required to set up a geodatabase.
- Log in to the server as a user with administrative privileges.
- Close all applications on your computer.
-
Access the ArcSDE installation files.
- If you have a DVD, place it in the appropriate drive.
- If you have an ISO image, use an ISO extractor to access the files.
- Double-click the ESRI.exe to start it.
-
Which version you install depends on whether you are installing on a Windows 32-bit server or 64-bit server.
- To install the 32-bit version of ArcSDE for SQL Server, choose the ArcSDE for SQL Server (32-bit) option on the ArcSDE installation dialog box.
- To install the 64-bit version of ArcSDE for SQL Server, choose the ArcSDE for SQL Server (64-bit) option on the ArcSDE installation dialog box.
- To complete the installation, follow the directions in the installation wizard.
- During the installation, you will be asked to read the license agreement and accept it or exit if you do not agree with the terms. If you exit, ArcSDE is not installed.
- Also during the installation, you can set the location on the disk to which the ArcSDE files will be installed, or you can accept the default location.
- Follow the rest of the directions in the setup wizard to complete the installation.
If you are creating a new geodatabase, you can proceed with the Post Installation wizard. If not, exit the wizard.
